Authorities Release ID Of Pedestrian Struck, Killed In Central Jersey Crash

Authorities are investigating a fatal crash in which a 71-year-old pedestrian was struck and killed.

The crash was reported at 6:02 a.m. on Tuesday at the intersection of Route 35 northbound and Cliffwood Avenue in Aberdeen Township, according to the Monmouth County Prosector's Office.

A preliminary investigation found that the driver and sole occupant of a 2018 Ford Explorer on State Highway 35 was in the left lane northbound and traveling through the intersection of Cliffwood Avenue with a green traffic signal when the driver observed a male pedestrian walking in the crosswalk, according to the prosecutor's office

The man was carrying a dog in front of the vehicle, the prosecutor said.

The driver swerved to the right to avoid the man and collided with a female pedestrian, according to the prosecutor.

Marlene Liptak of the Cliffwood Beach section. of Aberdeen Township was pronounced dead at the scene, the prosecutor's office said. 

The driver of the vehicle was uninjured from the collision. The driver's name was not released and no charges have been filed.
